But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night
(Psalms 1:2, NKJV)
As each year comes to a close, I make a point of spending some time during December to reflect, as do most people, on the year past while looking forward to the year ahead.
In a society that is filled with constant busyness, we often feel as though we can barely find time to really relax, and I have certainly found that to be true at times during 2013. For some of us our lives, while filled with activity, lack real production or results. So one aspect I have concluded I want to work on this year is learning to be more restful in God’s presence.
If like me, you have found times during the past year where you have felt overwhelmed, then I encourage you to conclude that this year will be different. Rather than being bogged down by unending stress, worry and busyness, choose to enter into His rest.
Jesus said: ‘Come to me… and I will give you rest….. (Matthew 11:28).
Choose to be intentional about spending time with God and in His Word like the Psalmist: ‘in His law he meditates day and night’ (Psalm 1:2). He knew the benefit of spending time in God’s presence and in His Word because he concludes that those who spend time with God, ‘shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water’ (Psalm 1:3).
So if you really want to flourish during 2014, then spend time with God. Make it a point to lock yourself away, rest in Him, and inhale the sweetness of His presence. He is waiting to inhale the warmth of your fragrance as you spend quality time with Him.
